For my most recent AICE media project, I was asked to make a 60-90 second film using no sound, themed around one specific word. The word my team was given was "regret."
Approach
Brainstorming process
Me and y project partner started by using a piece of paper to outline 15 scenes that we had planned in our heads and their shot types. This helped me organize my thoughts and visions for how I wanted this project to look. I listed the basic outline of how the story progresses.
Story boarding process
My story board helped me pre-visualize my project by providing a more detailed outline for the key components of the story. Drawing out how I pictured the scenes in my head gave me an understanding of what would look good together in the cuts and transitioning process, and in the aspect of the viewer. I highlighted the sense of the two character's argument using angles to establish a relationship between them and showing their facial expressions up close. The story board ensured that I focused on visual story telling with proper framework and pace.
Editing recourses
For editing I used adobe express. This allowed me to focus on the cuts, transitions and pace from scene to scene. I was also able to cut any background sound that was in the original takes. The lack of sound made it crucial to make sure the timing of each shot was good and help the film flow properly.
My conclusion
In this project, I feel that I properly included a variety of shot types and angles, such as over the shoulder shots, two shots, close ups and more. Along with this, I was able to understand the emotion these shots convey and use them in the right scenarios to show the audience how the characters feel.
For next time, I would like to improve the transition between these shots to make the watching experience more clean and precise.
